Drinkin' Smokin' Straight West Coastin'

Meet Carnage. A fine example of the young talent in Vancouver's growing dubstep scene. A grade 12 student at Point Grey, Robin Daily is the man behind it all. This guy has only been producing dubstep for 2 months but is already making waves. He has a background as both a metal guitarist and a hip hop producer. These genres are apparent in his hard hitting melodic reworkings of classic hip hop as well as the original filth he produces. Carnage is only just getting started. He recently submitted a track to Excisions Subsonic remix contest and trust us, its disgusting. Expect greatness from this kid as he is planning on furthering his music career next year at the prestigious Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. Check emmm:

We were only supposed to pick a few but we liked them all.

Tuesdub

Gil-Scott Heron - a spoken word legend and soul singer that many consider to be a founding father of hip-hop as we know it is now receiving the recognition he deserves, courtesy of some magical re-workings of his recent album "I'm New Here."

Up next we've got one of my favourite Dubstep sub-genres; the purple movement.

The father of it all:

Some fresh takes on the scene:

Purple Dubstep takes heavy influence from the searing synths and luxurious low end of the G Funk Movement:

Which in turn was founded on the P-Funk movement, instigated by George Clinton:

Thirsty Thursday

Today is Thursday - the unofficial start to the weekend. Tonight I'll be hitting up the Ajapai show at le Belmont. Unbelievably stoked for this, as apparently he outplayed Downlink (quite the feat) at his recent gig in Victoria.
Check his shit out:
Next we've got some classic pre-drinking bangers, the perfect prelude to a debaucherous night:
And finally, a couple of cool-out jams to wrap up your evening, best enjoyed with a bong hoot or six:

BASS NECTAR

Bassnectar (Lorin Ashton)’s sound has been pulsating on the electronic scene since 2001.
He loves bass and hates girls who shower.
Here’s a few tracks we like.

A duo of classic rap infused Bassnectar tracks

and from his recent "Wildstyle Ep”

cchhhhheck Lorin rockin the crowd at Shambhala 2011!!!
